Home Theater Seating Bass Shakers
Bass shakers or tactile transducers have become the latest buzz in bass sound amplification for home theaters. And why not? Bass shakers not only make you hear clearly low-frequency vibrations, you also feel them. Here is an FAQ on this prized home theater accessory.
* What exactly is a bass shaker?
It is a devise containing a small weight that is driven by a voice coil. The shaker is hooked onto your theater system’s audio amplifier and on a solid object (usually onto the chair or the floor.) When low frequency signals run through the coil, it sends pressure to the weight and the shaker’s body. This sends vibrations onto the mounting surface.
* Why would I want a bass shaker when I already have subwoofers?
The bass shaker dishes out a big bass sound at low SPL level; plus, not only do you hear it, you feel it too.
* How do I set up my bass shakers?
1. Mount pairs of shakers at the bottom or back of your seat by temporarily removing its fabric cover. The cork side of the shakers should face the back/bottom of the seat.
2. Connect the RCA cable lugs onto the shakers. The other end of the cable should lead out of the seat’s upholstery. Sew back the stripped fabric.
3. Attach the RCA connector onto the out jack of the amplifier. Plug the transformer cables into the power jack of the amplifier.
4. Attach an end of the 3.5 mm mini cord into the amplifier source. The opposite end should attach to the splitter jack. The splitter jack should connect to the second amplifier. The other 3.5 mm mini cord should connect to the audio source and the splitter.
5. Plug the amplifier into a power outlet, and adjust the bass volume level.
